The Hoard of Commmissloners met on 5[onday, Fferch 16, 1953 in the State <br />Highway Petrol Office. <br />Tdembera present wars Chairman R. 0. Forrest and Commiss ionera R. S. fit. <br />Hobbs and Sim L. Eland. <br />The Board opsned sealed bids for the purchase of a pickup truck for the <br />use of the County Dog 'Harden. After a consideration of e11 the proposals, it <br />was moved, seconded and unanimously passed, that the board reject all the bids. <br />It was moved by Cortmriss S.oner Efland end eacbnded by Cormniseioners Hobbs <br />end unanimously passed that the county purchase e pickup truck through the <br />Health Department end the I~i. C. Department of Purchase and Contr¢ct. <br />Fir. G. ?. Carr, County Sunerinte ndent of Schools, apoeered end reeuosted <br />that the Hoard pass a resolution asking the State Highway and Public 47orks <br />''Commiesi on to abandon a portion of the road which divides the West Hillsboro <br />School property. <br />Nmv, therefore, upon motion of Commissioner Hobbs, seconded by Commiasione. <br />Efland, the following resolution eras unanimously approved: <br />CHAIIGE IIJ C^i1NTY ROAD <br />'S7tEREAS, The Hoard of Education of Orange County has acquired the fifahaffey <br />property immedia taly behind the nrssent R'e at Hillsboro School grounds for <br />playground purposes; end <br />'rREREAS, the property on both aides of the street is owned by the Hoard <br />of Education oS Orange County; and <br />Z'AEREAS, vehicles passing along said road would constitute a traffic <br />hazard for students going to end from the playground; <br />PtOFJ, be it resolved: That the Board of Commissioners of Orange Covnty doe: <br />hereby reouest the N. 0. State Highway and Public 47orL•s Conmi ssion to close <br />the 200 ft. of road which intersects school property and discontinue it Tor <br />public use. <br />The Board set its next meeting for Tuesday, April 7, 1953, thereby allorr- <br />1ng the County Employees to observe Easter Ftondey es a holiday. <br />It was brought to the attention of the Hoard that I'rs. '.achel Crutchfield <br />has listed 50 acres of lend for county taxes for the veers 1945 through 1952, <br />which the same land was listed by the Goerge Crutchfield Heirs. The Hoard was <br />further advised that the Orange County Superior Court has ordera3 that Lfrs. <br />Crutchfield be refunded the taxes she paid on this property Tor these veers. <br />It was moved, seconded and unanimously passed that Elrs. Crutchfield be refunded <br />these taxes from the General Fund Emergencg A.ppropriati on, upon presentation oT <br />e demand in writing for such a refund, either by idrs.
