P� <br />The right -of -way for the portion of Ben Wilson Road to be abandoned and removed from <br />the State System is also depicted on Plat 112 Page 174 (Attachment 2). The related right - <br />of -way was acquired at a number of different times and by various methods starting with <br />acquisition for the original interstate construction project. <br />Request for Ben Wilson Road Extension (Partial) Addition <br />NCDOT initiated the request for addition and has submitted a petition to the BOCC for its <br />recommendation (Attachment 3). In accordance with North Carolina General Statute §136- <br />62, the BOCC is required to make a recommendation regarding petitions for addition of <br />roads to the North Carolina Board of Transportation ( NCBOT) before NCDOT can consider <br />the petition. <br />The petitioned portion of Ben Wilson Road and its respective length and width is as follows: <br />Road Name <br />Length in Miles <br />No. of Lots with <br />Pavement/Right -of- <br />Frontage <br />way Widths in Feet <br />Ben Wilson Road <br />0.03 <br />0 <br />24/60 <br />The road was located in Orange County's zoning and subdivision jurisdiction when it was <br />constructed, and was subsequently annexed by the City of Mebane. The road was built to <br />a public road standard. <br />Request for Ben Wilson Road (Partial) Abandonment <br />NCDOT initiated the request for abandonment and has submitted a petition to the BOCC <br />for its recommendation (Attachment 4). In accordance with North Carolina General Statute <br />§136 -63, the BOCC is required to make a recommendation regarding petitions for <br />abandonment of roads to the North Carolina Board of Transportation ( NCBOT) before <br />NCDOT can consider the petition. <br />The petitioned portion of Ben Wilson Road and its respective length and width is as follows: <br />Road Name <br />Length in Miles <br />No. of Lots with <br />Pavement/Right -of- <br />Frontage <br />way Widths in Feet <br />Ben Wilson Road <br />0.09 <br />0 <br />24/60 <br />In requesting the NCBOT to abandon this portion of Ben Wilson Road, the BOCC must find <br />that it would be in the public interest. The pavement has already been removed by <br />NCDOT. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no direct financial impact to the County associated with this <br />item other than staff time. NCDOT will incur additional maintenance and removal <br />responsibilities and costs. <br />
