He said current human resource policies regarding breastfeeding are <br />23 being reviewed. He said steps are being recommended for improvement on best practice, <br />24 including the need for formal policy language for staff about breastfeeding support and <br />25 education from the insurance company, availability of private space for breastfeeding, and the <br />26 availability of flexible scheduling to accommodate breastfeeding mothers. He said the BOH <br />27 passed a breastfeeding resolution outlining the health and economic benefits of breastfeeding <br />28 in June 2014. <br />29 Nick Galvez said an ongoing project is the Childcare Recognition Program. He said a <br />30 survey of childcare centers was conducted regarding their willingness to participate in a <br />31 childcare recognition program involving the implementation of the Nutritional and Physical Self <br />32 Assessment for Childcare (NAPSAC) and the Let's Move Improvement Program. He said staff <br />33 is currently working to implement the survey and will present findings to the BOH. <br />34 Nick Galvez said the BOH is looking at school nutrition. He said the BOH has outlined a <br />35 number of action steps related to providing technical assistance to schools to improve nutrition <br />36 policies and offerings. He said the BOH is also seeking to participate in the local Food Policy <br />37 Council. He said the BOH plans to request policy recommendations from this Council in the <br />38 future. <br />39 Commissioner Rich asked about local childhood obesity rates. <br />40 Nick Galvez said this is tracked at the high school level but not at younger ages. <br />41 Commissioner Rich said she would like to see childhood obesity taken seriously and <br />42 understands it is a larger issue than the BOH can handle alone. <br />43 Commissioner Pelissier asked if the food in schools will become healthier. <br />44 Colleen Bridger said there have been some discussions with the school nutritionists. <br />45 She added it is a challenge because it costs less money to provide less healthy foods. She <br />46 said a middle ground needs to be found. She said a new superintendent has been appointed in <br />47 Orange County Schools (OCS), and she is hopeful this will provide some continuity that has <br />48 been missing due to staff turnover. <br />49 Commissioner Jacobs said he has a proposal to make it easier for the schools to buy <br />50 local food. He said this proposal will be discussed in the work session following this meeting. <br />
