described herein, and/or the issuance of an abatement order to <br />comply with the provisions of this ordinance. Owner or operators <br />of pet shops must apply to the Animal Control Director, pay any <br />designated fee, and receive a permit to own or operate a pet shop <br />in Orange County. Facilities shall be subject to inspection <br />during reasonable hours by the Animal Control Officer or other <br />appropriate representative of the Animal Protection Program upon <br />his or her request. The premises for pet shops shall meet the <br />following standards: <br />1. There shall be available hot water at a minimum tem- <br />perature of 140° Fahrenheit for washing cages and disinfecting, <br />and cold water easily accessible to all parts of the shop. <br />2. Fresh water shall be available to all species at all <br />times. Containers are to be cleaned and disinfected each day. <br />All water containers shall be removable for cleaning and be <br />mounted so the animal cannot turn them over or defecate in them. <br />3. The temperature of the area around the animal <br />enclosures in the shop shall be maintained at a level that is <br />healthful for every species of animals kept in the shop. <br />4. All cages and enclosures are to be of a nonporous <br />material for easy cleaning and disinfecting. Each cage must be <br />of sufficient size that the animal will have room to stand, turn, <br />lie down, and stretch out to its full length without touching the <br />sides, or tops of the enclosure, and floors of sufficient <br />strength and design to ensure the animal's limbs or paws cannot <br />pass through the floor material. <br />W-1 <br />
