PURPOSE <br />DUTIES <br />The <br />shall be <br />ORANGE COUNTY HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION <br />1. To study problems of discrimination and encourage <br />fair treatment through mutual understanding. <br />2. To isolate practices which are most likely to <br />create tension among racial, ethnic, religious and <br />other groups and seek solutions to such tensions. <br />3. To serve as advisory to the orange County Board of <br />Commissioners in seeking and implementing programs <br />for community improvement in the area of human <br />relations. <br />duties of the Orange County Human Relations Commission <br />as follows: <br />1. To study and make recommendations concerning <br />problems in any or all fields of human relationship <br />and encourage fair treatment and mutual understand- <br />ing among all racial, ethnic, religious and other <br />groups in Orange County. <br />2. To anticipate and discover those practices and <br />customs most likely to create animosity and unrest <br />among citizen groups of Orange County and seek <br />solutions as these problems arise. <br />3. To make recommendations to the Board of County <br />Commissioners as appropriate designed to promote <br />good will and harmony among racial, ethnic, <br />religious and other groups in the County. <br />4. To seek and enlist the support and cooperation of <br />various groups in orange County in order to achieve <br />the goals of the Commission. <br />5. To monitor complaints involving discrimination <br />based on race, religion, color, national origin or <br />sex or sexual orientation through a process <br />approved by the Board of County Commissioners. <br />6. to enlist the cooperation of various racial, <br />religious, ethnic groups, community organizations <br />and other groups in Orange County in programs and <br />campaigns devoted to eliminating group prejudice <br />and discrimination. <br />7. To hold such meetings as the Commission deems <br />necessary in carrying out its functions. <br />8. To organize itself properly so as to facilitate its <br />role and responsibility. <br />9. To perform such other duties as may be assigned it <br />from time to time by the Board of County Commis- <br />sioners. <br />COMPOSITION <br />The Commission shall have 17 members who shall be <br />appointed by the Board of County Commissioners for three year <br />terms. Any citizen of Orange County is eligible for appointment. <br />The Board of County Commissioners may appoint one student repre- <br />sentative from each high school in Orange County. <br />TERMS <br />Members may serve a maximum of two consecutive three <br />year terms. <br />
