~j
Animal Services Tethering Committee Meeting
Monday May 7th, 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Meeting Summary
Location: Conference Center, John Link Government Services Center, 200
South Cameron Center, Hillsborough.
OCTC Members and Staff Present: Jean Connerat Austin, Kristine Bergstrand,
Mary Dow, Michael Nelson, Suzanne Roy, Kelly Strowd, and Office Assistant
Lisa Smith.
OCTC Members and Staff Absent: Margie Huggins, Animal Services Director
Robert Marotto.
Agenda Review: The proposed Agenda for this meeting was reviewed and
accepted.
Public Comment Period: It was agreed to change this meeting into a second
public input meeting due to the amount of citizens wanting to speak. There were
20+ citizens and many of whom spoke were the president and some if their
members of the Eno River Coon Club and Cane Creek Farms. Kris Bergstrand
gave a brief history regarding how and why the ASAB board and the tethering
subcommittee was created. The concerns people had were why were people
from other counties attending and speaking at these meetings, why does Animal
Control come to residences with out having received a complaint. Other concerns
were why people are not able to get onto the tethering committee when there are
openings, how do they get onto the ASAB and how that is advertised when there
are openings. The hunters feel like they are and have always been
signaled out regarding animal laws. There are people who are not able to afford
fences and pens and do not have time to go to dog parks. We need to enforce
the laws we already have and not make more.
Approval of Meeting Summaries from April 11tH and Apri123ra tethering
meetings: Motion was made by Jean Connerat Austin to approve meeting
summary from April 11'h meeting and add a summary from the speakers and
approve at the next meeting, seconded by Kris Bergstrand. Motion made by Jean
Connerat Austin to approve meeting summary from the April 23~d meeting and
seconded by Kris Bergstrand. VOTE: Unanimous
Meeting Adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
