Mills, Division Engineer, with Karen Lincoln, 245-2594 <br />Proposed 2006-2007 SR Construction Program <br />Unpaved Secondary Roads Rating List <br />PURPOSE: To discuss and receive comment on North Carolina Department of Transportation's <br />Proposed 2008-2009 Secondary Roads Construction Program for Orange County. <br />BACKGROUND.: Chapter 136-44.8 of the General Statutes of North Carolina (NCGS) requires <br />that the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) meet with the Board of County <br />Commissioners at a public meeting to present and discuss with the Board and the public the <br />proposed secondary road paving projects (Secondary Roads Construction Program). NCDOT, <br />in compliance with NCGS 136-44.8, has posted in the Orange County Courthouse a County <br />map showing tentative secondary road paving projects, and has published notice of the public <br />hearing in county newspapers (The Chapel Hill News, ,The News of Orange and The Mebane <br />Enterprise). <br />The 2008-2009 allocation for Orange County secondary roads totals $ 1,102,737. The <br />allocation includes: <br />Paving Rural <br />I. Rural Paving Priority (6 road segments - 3.70 miles) $ 670,000 <br />II. General Secondary Road Improvements $ 408,000 <br />III. Surveying, right-of-way acquisition, additions, contingencies, <br />overdrafts, etc. $ 24,737 <br />Total $ 1,102,737 <br />The FY 2008-2009 allocation represents a 56.45% decrease in funding from the $2,532,000 <br />allocation for the 2007-2008 Orange County Secondary Roads Construction Program. <br />The program is subject to the availability of funds, rights of way, environmental and historical <br />review. If right-of-way is not available on the specified unpaved roads, or if additional funds are <br />allocated, other roads will be programmed in order of priority. <br />
