We can submit the soils report as an appendix if needed.
Please let us know if this sounds okay or if there are other steps or additional information that Planning and
Environmental Health might need in support of the application."
Thanks for any input you can provide,
Vic
From: D'Amato, Victor
Sent: Friday, October 03, 2014 3:41 PM
To: mharvey @orangecountync.gov
Subject: FW: Hart's Mill wastewater system information to support site plan approval
to
From: D'Amato, Victor
Sent: Friday, October 03, 2014 3:37 PM
To: Alan Clapp (aciaCap @orangecountync.gov); Harvey, Michael
Cc: k cOresultworks.com; Michael Hughes (mmh rxcmh g com); Tucker, Bobby
Subject: Hart's Mill wastewater system information to support site plan approval
Dear Alan and Michael -
Following -up on our meeting with Michael last week and our meeting with Alan and his colleagues in Environmental
Health in July, we wanted to provide some additional information on the proposed wastewater system for Hart's Mill
and get input from you on additional requirements for the master plan /site plan application.
I am attaching AWT's original soil /site evaluation report for the site. This appears to have been generated assuming that
each building would use its own individual onsite system (which is not currently planned). However, the soil morphology
data should help inform the feasibility of using the site for a cluster /small community system, as currently planned.
The current conceptual plan is to collect wastewater from the buildings and convey it by gravity to a cluster treatment
area, where it would be primary treated in a septic tank and then applied to the soil using the state - approved anaerobic
drip irrigation system (American Manufacturing /Perc Rite). We prefer to use drip irrigation to deliver septic tank effluent
as shallow as possible to maximize soil treatment as well as uptake from adjacent /downgradient vegetation. Based on
the soil depths AWT reported, we don't think aerobic (pretreated) drip will be required, but we can certainly pursue that
if needed based on the results of the additional soil work that will be required and the County's findings in support of
the Improvement Permit (IP) application. Likewise, it appears that ample area of provisionally suitable soils should be
available to accommodate the design flow, which at this point is estimated at 7,000 -8,000 gpd. We understand,
however, that additional soil characterization and hydrualic analyses will be required prior to issuance of an IP.
Based on our understanding of the application process, we were planning to prepare a schematic (line) diagram and a
preliminary site plan /layout (showing tank and preliminary drip zone locations) for the system, as well as providing a
written narrative description of the system, including design flow and basic system component sizing calculations and
general description of the technology. We can submit the soils report as an appendix if needed.
