<br />Zt is further ordered thzt Ira A. Plard, Covnty Accountant, end E. ?d. Lynch
<br />Clerk of the Suneri or Court, are hereby directed to deposit daily in the
<br />aforesaid Durham Bank k Trust Company, Hillsboro Branch, any aad all funds or ~
<br />money belonging to the County of Orange, or any subdlviaion thereof, received --
<br />or collected by them as required under the provisions of Section 153.135 of
<br />the General Statutes of North Carolina.
<br />A bill in the amount of 5200 was presented to the Board representing the
<br />remainder due Graham and Eskridge, County At tornoy=, for the balance due for
<br />services and expenses in connection with the is su¢nce of j250, 000 Courthouse
<br />Bond Anticipation Note, and the $250,000 Courthouse Bonds. It xas duly moved,
<br />seconded and pass ad, that this bill ba paid from tae Courthouse Building Fund.
<br />Miss Annie Btrowd and Ltiss Gladys Talley, new caso worker for the blind,
<br />appeared and discussed the Aid to the Blind nrogrsa in the county. The follow-
<br />ing changes in grants were made:
<br />Jamos S. Blacknell, III, Nevr grant, .^7l}7.00 per month.
<br />Lizzie :4h1te, reduced from a monthly grant of $Ii6.00 to 535.00.
<br />Charlie Robert Prhi.te reduced from a monthly grant of 550.00 to $35.00.
<br />Mr. Jemas R. Ferlow, Attorney for Brodie Powell, appeared and requested
<br />the decision of the Board in the matter pertaining to the revocet ion of the
<br />1952-1953 Baer License. Deputy Sheriff Frank Maddry and D!r. Farl ow informed
<br />the Board that Brodie Powell had complied with the Boards suggestion in
<br />erecting additional lights outside his niece of business, end was attempting
<br />to improve the situation at his establishment. In view of this, the Board
<br />advised hir. Ferlow that it was not revoking the Beer License ¢t this time.
<br />Zt was moved by Commissioner Hobbs, seconded by Commissioner Efland and
<br />unanimously passed, that hire. Idabel Allison in the Clerk of Courts office be
<br />advanced from her present salary to a salary of $210.00 per month, effective
<br />January 1, 1953r so long as she ne rforms tho duties formerly performed by Mrs.
<br />Iris Pl. Cates.

<br />RESOLVED, Thet the Orange County Bar Association be on record es Savoring
<br />¢n additional one week special civil term of the Superior Court of Orange
<br />County to be held the week beginning the second Monday before the first Sdonday
<br />in ufarch of each year here¢f ter, excluding the year 1953, and that the County
<br />Commis elopers of Orange County ba reoues tad to approve such a term and requa st
<br />the Orange County renresent¢tives in the General Assembly to have adopted
<br />whatever legislation necessary to accomplish the estaUlishment of this sne cial
<br />term of Court, working v+ith Mr. John ?d. Strong, Spec iel Administrative Assis-
<br />tant to Chief Jus tics Davin.
<br />It was moved by Commis sipper Hobbs, seconded by Commissioner Efland and
<br />unanimously passed, that the foregoing resolution be endorsed, and that a cony
<br />of t?:e same be sent to the Orange County Legislative repres ent¢tive.
<br />At 2 o'clock P. L1. on February 2, 1953, the Board met in the Courthouse
<br />for the purpose of hearing delegations pertaining to the proposed change in
<br />the number of members of the Board of Commissioners. Mr. C. "7. Stanford,
<br />Chairman, and Sir. ii. S. Cate, ?:tember of the Orange County Roard of Education,
<br />end Dir. G. P. Carr, Superintendent, Orange County Schools, attended this
<br />session.
<br />A netitipn containing 330 signatures was presented to the Hoard. This
<br />petition read as foil owe:
<br />C1E, the undersigned citizens of Orange County, urge that the members of
<br />the County Board of Con¢nisaioners be elected from the county at large, rather
<br />than from any narticul ar district or tormship, with no limitation on the
<br />number of commissioners to be elected from any township.

<br />Etr. Raid Roberts and ?dr. Raymond Weaver spoke in behalf of a petition,
<br />which vras presented to the Board at a prior meeting, and which stated
<br />"no two members on either board shall come from the same township". After
<br />hearing cons Sdarable discussion in the Courtroom, the Board adjourned that
<br />portion of its meeting end reconvened in the Commissioners' Room.
