25 <br />1 <br />Commissioner Rich said she would like to see attendance at ArtsCommission Board <br />2 <br />meetings addressed. She said she has been contacted by some members about attendance <br />3 <br />being low which leads to inconsistency in meetings. <br />4 <br />Chair McKeeoffered to write a letter to the Board Chair about the topic. <br />5 <br />Commissioner Rich suggested speaking with Steve Brantley about this attendance.She <br />6 <br />said that effort is takenin appointing members to the Board as they appear to be interested, <br />7 <br />and she would like to insure that they are indeed interested in attending meetings and serving. <br />8 <br />Chair McKee said he could also attend a meeting. <br />9 <br />10 <br />12.Board Comments <br />11 <br />Commissioner Price had no comments. <br />12 <br />Commissioner Rich said the Solid Waste Advisory Group (SWAG)meetings are coming <br />13 <br />closer to anendas related to the fees for recycling. She said ithas been a real learning <br />14 <br />experience for her. She said there has been very good discussion,and she feels positive. She <br />15 <br />said the SWAG will now moveinto phase two wherethere will be more discussion about the <br />16 <br />interlocal agreement, solid waste issues and the plan for the future. She saidan update will be <br />17 <br />givenafter the next few meetings have occurred. <br />18 <br />Chair McKee thanked Commissioners Rich and Jacobs for their efforts. <br />19 <br />Commissioner Burroughs echoed Chair McKee’sthanks for the efforts regarding <br />20 <br />SWAG. <br />21 <br />Commissioner Pelissier noted that this is National Public Health Week. <br />th <br />22 <br />Commissioner Dorosin said on Friday, April 10,the Chapel Hill-Carrboro National <br />23 <br />Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has its annual Freedom Fund <br />24 <br />Banquet at 6:00pm. He said the banquet will occur at the Friday Center on Highway54.He <br />25 <br />said the keynote speaker is Ted Shaw, the former Executive Director of the NAACP Legal <br />26 <br />Defense Fund and the current the Executive Director of the University of North Carolina’s <br />27 <br />Center for Civil Rights. <br />28 <br />Commissioner Jacobs said he would like an update in the future regarding the adoption <br />29 <br />of a living wagepolicy. <br />30 <br />John Roberts said staff is researching this and will bring back information to the Board. <br />thth <br />31 <br />Chair McKee said next Wednesday,April 15and Thursday, April 16the Junior <br />32 <br />Livestock Show and Sale will be held at theOrange Grove Community Center. He said this <br />33 <br />event is in its eightieth year, involves eight to ten counties and countless children.
