ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: May 20, 2008
Action Agenda
Item No. ~'
SUBJECT: Contract Renewal for Pharmacy Services for Health Department
DEPARTMENT: Health PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No
ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT:
Contract Rosemary Summers, 245-2411
PURPOSE: To consider approving the contract renewal for pharmacy services for the Health
Department.
BACKGROUND: For the past seven years, the Health Department has contracted with an
individual pharmacist to provide pharmacy services for the department. This will be the .sixth
year of contracting with the same pharmacist. The contract for FY 2008-2009 includes a 3.5%
increase over last year for a total of $12,036 per year. Pharmacy services last year enabled the
Health Department to provide pharmaceutical services to over 5,000 patients seen in one of the
department's clinical services. The pharmacist also consults with the Health Department
regarding public health preparedness dispensing sites and is available on-site if needed during a
communicable disease outbreak.
FINANCIAL- IMPACT: The total cost of the contract is $12,036 for the fiscal year for
approximately 350 hours of on-site pharmacy services, a 3.5% increase over last year. The
$12,036 is included in the recommended Health Department budget.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the contract
renewal and authorize the' Chair to sign, pending the approval of the 2008-2009 budget and
County Attorney review.
