DocuSign Envelope ID:4C996037-012A-4978-866D-FBEA2F02CC51
R I INC.
A. Past relevant project experience:
The following listing of completed projects include mezzanine and/or new floor
constructions within existing buildings. They include...
1) Restoration / Renovation to... 1916 / Durham County Court House
2) Addition of... Overlook Mezzanine to... former Department Store for... Main
Bank Room Offices, Sun Trust Bank, Durham
3) Extension of Second Floor over 2 % story Lobby @... Math & Science
Classroom Building / Durham High School
4) Three non combustible Floors Constructed within the fire gutted exterior
masonry shell walls @ Phi Gamma Delta, Fraternity / UNC
Each of the above projects had unique situations and circumstances. For this
submittal we have singled out the 1916 / Durham County Court House as a good
example of past experience that relates to the Sportsplex Mezz, project. A detailed
project description w/ illustrations is contained later in this booklet under the
heading Illustrations.... Note: We have not had completed work within the last
seven years that includes Mezzanine construction within an existing building.
Regardless... Edgar Carr was the project architect for each of the above projects
and Willy Stewart, PE, founder of Stewart Engineering was the structural engineer
for the 1916 / Durham County Court House project where two complete new floors
were added where previous floor constructions did not exist. A sampling of the
construction drawings for this work is contained later in this submittal.
B. Scope of anticipated services:
I feel certain I am not stating new news but... the Mezzanine Project is predicated
on a very tight time line. Re: Start planning / design work immediately following A/E
selection and contract negotiation w/acceptable bids received summer 2015;
construction contract awarded w/final construction completion fall /winter 2015.
This is a tall order not to mention doing so while maintaining safe /occupied use of
the aquatic area during construction. see * below)
We have successfully faced similar situations before, in fact our most recent
completed project... Renovations to... Phi Delta Theta Fraternity/ UNC. The
project scope called for gutting major portions of the existing structure including six
load bearing masonry walls removed. Construction began May 12, 2014 w/
occupancy achieved August 15, 2014. No academic semester time was lost!
General Contractor was Romeo-Guest Associates, Durham. Jim Robbins,
President (919-683-1701) Lead Client Contact: Tom C. Kerns, President, Beta
Chapter Board, Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, Chapel Hill. (919-960-5475)
