Early <br /> commissions were primarily residential structures which to this <br /> day continue to anchor an enhance the older premier Durham, <br /> North Carolina neighborhoods of Forest Hills and Hope Valley. <br /> With the 1937 completion of the 18 storied Hill Building the firm <br /> was able to secure larger undertakings. In 1940 George Watts <br /> Carr w/J.E. Greiner Engineers was awarded the commission to <br /> Master Plan and initiate what now has become one of the largest <br /> Marine Corps Military Bases in the world. (Camp Lejeune & <br /> Cherry Point) Some 3,000 buildings were designed and <br /> construction supervised by Carr/Greiner Architects&Engineers <br /> including the 2,000 bed Naval Hospital sited on the New River at <br /> Hadnot Point,Onslow County. <br /> With the end of World War II, a great demand developed for <br /> county hospitals. From 1940 through 1960 fifteen new medical <br /> facilities were completed under the firm's direction including the <br /> 500 Bed Veteran's Hospital, Durham, N.C. A 35 million dollar <br /> addition and renovation project was completed at the Durham VA <br /> Medical Center in 1993.Re:Project included a fourstoried dining <br /> atrium, a new out-patient clinic, new expanded laboratory, 17 <br /> newly located departments, a Magnetic Resonance Image(MRI) <br /> Scan facility and 28 Intensive Care beds(medical, surgical and <br /> cardiac) housed on three floors of a planned eight storied ICU <br /> tower. <br /> A profile of work during the 1960's and 70's included increases <br /> in institutional work with numerous commissions at Duke <br /> University, North Carolina Central University, Coastal Carolina <br /> Community College and Durham City /County Primary (K-12) <br /> school projects. The decades 1980 thru the 1990's saw primary <br /> involvement w/work funded and overseen by the State of NC.Re: <br /> NC School of Science &Mathematics;NC Dept. of Agriculture; <br /> NC Dept. of Archives & History; NC Dept. of Environment & <br /> Natural Resources and the NC Dept. of Administration. <br /> The present day proiect profile contains a wide diversity of <br /> project types.
