4. Fares for low income ADA certified riders should be subsidized to reduce the financial <br /> impact on these riders. For those riders requiring and accompanying health aide, the aide <br /> should not be charged a fare. <br /> 5. Riders that are certified to use the ADA Para-transit service should be issued a Photo <br /> identity card with a magnetic stripe to enable automated tracking of the service being <br /> provided. <br /> It is noted that OPT receives only 12% of the sales tax and fees proceeds dedicated to Transit <br /> services yet will probably be the only transit service used in their lifetime by rural seniors. It <br /> would be appropriate to allocate additional funding to put in place these suggested additions to <br /> render the expanded service more rider friendly. <br /> Submitted by Alex Castro Jr. <br /> Bingham Township Senior Resident <br /> Commissioner Price said additional bus stops are needed. <br /> Craig Benedict said staff has been working on a marketing campaign, and several of <br /> the other suggestions are also being pursued. Consider approval of the attached resolution (Attachment 3), approving and authorizing the <br /> plan; and <br /> 2. Authorize the Orange County Transportation Planning staff to submit the plan to the North <br /> Carolina Department of Transportation and Federal Transit Administration. <br /> Commissioner Price asked if this approval includes the double fare. <br /> Bret Martin said the Board can make that decision with the adoption of the plan. <br /> Commissioner Price said she would like to offer a friendly amendment to ask for a fare <br /> study regarding the cost of this service. <br /> Commissioner Pelissier said she would accept the amendment, and she would like to <br /> specify the need to find out how many people are Medicaid eligible. <br /> Commissioner Jacobs accepted the friendly amendment. <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 6.
