ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: May 20, 2008 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. ~'c~ <br />SUBJECT: Workforce Development Board (WDB) Annual Report <br />DEPARTMENT: Social Services PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />Skills Development/Jobt_ink Center <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Regional Partnership WDB Annual Nancy Coston - 245-2802 <br />Report (Under Separate Cover) <br />PURPOSE: To present the annual report for last fiscal year, July 1, 2006 -June 30, 2007, <br />prepared by the Regional Partnership Local Area on Workforce Investment Act Programs, <br />including the vision of the Workforce Development Board (WDB) members from Alamance, <br />Orange, and Randolph counties, expenditures for all contractors of Workforce Investment Act <br />programs, number of participants served, success stories, and articles on Joblink Center <br />activities. <br />BACKGROUND: The Regional Partnership Workforce Development Board has sole <br />responsibility and oversight of the Workforce Investment Act programs administered in <br />Alamance, Orange, and Randolph counties. The Board is comprised of a majority of private <br />sector individuals, with remaining seats filled by the public sector. The Orange County Board of <br />County Commissioners appoints members to the Regional Partnership Workforce Development <br />Board. Members for this report period of July 1, 2006-June 30, 2007 are: <br />• Keith Norwood -Board Chair -Private Sector <br />• Nancy Coston-Social Services -Public Sector <br />• Dr. Shirley Carraway -Orange County Schools -Public Sector <br />• Cleon Currie-Self-Employed -Private Sector <br />• Dianne Reid -Economic Development -Public Sector <br />• Sandra Sanchez -Joint Orange Chatham Community Action -Public Sector <br />The mission of the Regional Partnership Workforce Development Board is to provide leadership <br />and advocacy for workforce development in our communities, focusing on employer needs and <br />employment preparedness, with a vision of being recognized as the catalyst between <br />individuals' education and training, and employers' needs through the effective utilization of <br />available resources. <br />
