2 <br />®I~NGE C®UNTY ~® ®F C®I~IlVIISSI(~NEI~S <br />IZES®LIJTI®N II.EC®GNIZING STEVE SCI®GGS <br />WHEREAS, Steve Scroggs will be retiring from his position as Assistant Superintendent of Support <br />Services with the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools on June 1, 2008, after 12 years <br />of service; and, <br />WHEREAS, Mr. Scroggs has had the responsibility to handle many challenging and controversial <br />issues during his tenure, including redistricting/student assignment, budget, human <br />resources, transportation, food service, maintenance and construction; and, <br />WHEREAS, he and his staff have been responsible for overseeing the construction of Smith Middle, <br />Rashkis Elementary, Carrboro High and Morris Grove schools, and he was principal <br />at McDougle Elementary when it opened; and, <br />WHEREAS, he has been recognized by the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Association of Education Office <br />Professionals three times since 2000 as the "Administrator of the Year"; and, <br />WHEREAS, Steve Scroggs comes from a family focused on education, with his mother having served <br />as a school board member and is the namesake for Mary Scroggs Elementary School; <br />and, <br />WHEREAS, in addition to a commitment to local education, Steve Scroggs served as a teacher in the <br />Peace Corps; and, <br />WHEREAS, Steve Scroggs has attended many Orange County Board of Commissioners' meetings, <br />representing the Chapel Hili-Carrboro City Schools System, snappily attired in his <br />trademark bowtie; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, do hereby recognize Steve <br />Scroggs for his outstanding service to the staff, parents and especially the students of <br />the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools System and the people of Orange County. <br />This the 20te day of May 2008. <br />Barry Jacobs, Chair <br />Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />
