This master plan was
created by a 14-member committee, during 2006 and 2007.
The 152-acre future park is located near the intersection of New Hope Church
Road and NC 86 between Hillsborough and Chapel Hill (please see vicinity map).
The Master Plan Committee included Commissioners Jacobs and Gordon as
representatives from the Board, as well as members from several County
advisory boards and other interested parties (and staff from four departments).
The charge to the committee is provided as Attachment 1.
The Committee met on seven occasions to develop the master plan, which is
provided as Attachment 2. The committee conducted site visits to other similar-
themed parks, and included an information-gathering phase from members and
staff to inform their deliberations.
The master plan takes a "low-impact" approach to address recreation, historic
preservation and environmental education opportunities, and protect the
agricultural and natural heritage and scenic vistas present on the site. This is in
keeping with the Committee charge, and the County's intentions announced at
the time of acquisition.
Some of the notable features proposed for this facility include:
^ Amphitheatre
^ Community gardens
:~- , .
•%/r (/rr~rri , r/ lrrr/' •~/iririrr•
