9 <br />docmnents were sanctioned by the County Commissioners in a public hearing in August <br />and the planning staff was authorized to use these goals as a guide to the remainder of the <br />plan. <br />- Opportwuties for public input include countywide meetings, open houses, formal public <br />hearings, and the 8 advisory board meetings which meet monthly are also open to the <br />public. The public can access information by contacting staff, advisory board members, <br />attending meetings, visiting the website, obtaining copies of public hearing materials at <br />County libraries, and reading press releases. <br />- The Board of County Commissioners adopted the time table and guiding principals of <br />the plan. They will ultimately consider adoption of the plan. Advisory boards work with <br />the consultant to prepare the draft plan and review it. Clarion Associates is the consultant <br />for the project, headed by Roger Waldon. County Staff partner with the consultant to <br />review documents. They have also written sections of the plan to be considered by <br />Advisory Boards. The public attends meetings and provides input and feedback. <br />- The consultant has. collected data and information from staff, advisory boards, acid <br />studies and reports done in the county to use as a source to prepare the first draft plan. <br />The first draft plan was delivered to staff and advisory boards early in March to staff. <br />Advisory boards are working now to review the plan and have until April 14 to send <br />comments to the consultant <br />- There are 13 chapters in the first draft and the 8 elements are represented. Each element <br />has as summary and overview, purpose statement, data, analyses of trends, needs (policy,. <br />data, programming, facility), goals and objectives, links to other elements, key documents <br />(reports and studies), intergovermnental coordination. Tom briefly went over highlights <br />of each chapter. <br />- The next steps include the May 19 public hearing. Input from this meeting will be <br />written into a brief summary prepared by staff and posted on the website. Advisory <br />boards and County Commissioners will be encouraged to review it. These comments will <br />also be part of the public hearing agenda packet for the May 19 meeting <br />Public Questions and Comments: <br />-Andy Sachs of the Dispute Settlement Center facilitated the Question and Answer <br />portion of the evening. <br />"Public" -What are Clarion's qualifications as a consultant and are they familiar with the <br />county? <br />Mr. Altieri -Roger Waldon worked as Planning Director for Chapel Hill for <br />approximately 20 years before joining Clarion.
