I live near the Eno Economic
Development District and served on the county's Affordable Housing Advisory Board for five
years.
On behalf of the Orange County Comprehensive Plan Coalition I'd like to thank you for
scheduling this session. The coalition represents a broad cross section of community
stakeholders. Presently we have eight member organizations. Representatives from all eight are
here with me.
Tonight, I'll make some remarks about the coalition's Statement on Objectives (CSO) for the
Comprehensive Plan Update (CPU). Last Friday the statement was mailed to each planning and
advisory board member. Our hope is that these boards will take our recommendations into
account as they draft the CPU.
The CSO includes a goal statement and objectives for the eight plan elements. There are 44
objectives in all, including two for a new category we suggest be included in the CPU,
"Performance Indicators and Review".
Our CSO is subject to change. After we review the draft CPU this spring, we'll have further
comments. And we are likely to bring forward more detailed and/or new recommendations as we
study this issue more.
Now, I'd like to point out that the CSO is influenced by three criteria* which the coalition will
use to evaluate the CPU. Posed as questions, the three criteria are
® Will the CPU result in a future where "envirorunental conservation, energy efficiency, .
affordable housing, social equity, a tlu-iving economy, regional agricultural production and
3of16
