12
that 1/3 in Orange County's jurisdiction, the majority of that growth will go into urban
transition and the rest will go rural. That needs to be addressed in the future.
"Public" -Will public comments that are taken at the May 19 public hearing matter?
Wi11 there be another draft created for adoption?
Mr. Altieri -Yes. Following the public hearing they will consider public input and make
recommendations back to the commissioners about what they would like to see in the
next draft for adoption
"Public" -Will the County Commissioners adopt the plan in August with the idea that
they still want changes?
Mr. Alfieri -They can adopt it as it is, they can incorporate changes the plaluiing board
suggests, or they could table it.
"Public" -Realistically, is there time for what is said at the public hearing to have an
impact before the BOCC adopts plan?
Mr. Benedict -Yes. There may be a topic that commissioners say the plan should
address and they would direct staff to go back and work on this. There may be a topic
that we can adjust later without holding up the plan's adoption. There is an existing land
use map, which will not change until the commissioners say to. When the plan is
adopted, each advisory board will pick a priority that needs to be accomplished. There is
a host of work in the plan that needs to be implemented and that won't happen in the first
year.
Comments
"Public" -Chapter 11 is really important and should follow chapter 2. The overarching
goal for the whole document is found here. I'm not satisfied with language, but that can
change later. The most important issue is climate change and we're running out of
resources. I vivant the document to reference climate change -carbon reduction goals.
We don't even talk about this in the plan.
"Public" -The overarching goal for economic development needs to reference climate
change. We have a responsibility to the future. Prioritizing locally owned businesses and
their networking is important. Innovation and attracting, supporting and integrating local
businesses are crucial
"Public" -The BOCC composition changes this fall. Are we expecting politics to shift
dramatically? Will there be greater representation of the north?
Mr. Benedict -There shouldn't be that much change. The goal is to make this a learning
process with more synergy. There should be more representation of the north. There is a
website on the voting process and districts.
