She said it is important to state that the Board is willing to "stick their neck <br /> 3 out" and go to court if necessary. <br /> 4 <br /> 5 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 6 <br /> 7 4. Proclamations/ Resolutions/ Special Presentations <br /> 8 <br /> 9 a. Women's History Month Proclamation <br /> 10 The Board considered adopting the Proclamation proclaiming the month of March 2015 <br /> 11 as "Women's History Month" and authorizing the Chair to sign. <br /> 12 Chair McKee noted that Commissioner Price had presented a revised proclamation, as <br /> 13 provided at their places, and it would be best to decide which proclamation to use. <br /> 14 Commissioner Price said that she had made some grammatical changes and had also <br /> 15 added the word "faith" into the proclamation, because women of all faiths have participated in <br /> 16 the various movements mentioned in the document. <br /> 17 <br /> 18 A motion was made by Commissioner Price, seconded by Commissioner Jacobs to <br /> 19 replace the proclamation in their agenda packet with the revised proclamation by Commissioner <br /> 20 Price. <br /> 21 <br /> 22 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 23 <br /> 24 Vanessa Soleil read the revised proclamation as follows: <br /> 25 <br /> 26 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 27 WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH PROCLAMATION <br /> 28 <br /> 29 WHEREAS, the Orange County Human Relations Commission has diligently served the <br /> 30 County of Orange since 1987, and is committed to promoting the equal treatment of all <br /> 31 individuals; and <br /> 32 <br /> 33 WHEREAS, women of every race, ethnicity, class and faith have made historic contributions to <br /> 34 the growth and strength of our County in countless ways, recorded and unrecorded; and <br /> 35 <br /> 36 WHEREAS, Orange County women have played and continue to play a critical role in the <br /> 37 economic, cultural, and social spheres of the life of the County ; and <br /> 38 <br /> 39 WHEREAS, women of every race, ethnicity, class and faith served as early leaders in the <br /> 40 forefront of every major progressive social change movement; and <br /> 41 <br /> 42 WHEREAS, women have been leaders in securing their own rights of suffrage <br /> 43 and equal opportunity, and also in the abolitionist movement, the emancipation movement, the <br /> 44 industrial labor movement, the civil rights movement, and other movements, especially the <br /> 45 peace movement, which create a more fair and just society for all; and <br /> 46 <br /> 47 WHEREAS, despite these contributions, the role of women in history consistently has been <br /> 48 overlooked and undervalued in the literature, teaching and study of American history; and <br /> 49 <br /> 50 WHEREAS, women constitute a majority of the Orange County labor force working <br />
