74 <br />begin the first phase of a publication documenting the county's historic properties <br />(2014) <br />• Held a successful piedmont regional history symposium in partnership with <br />Preservation Chapel Hill and the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough (2014) <br />• Hosted a historic preservation training workshop for piedmont region city and <br />county historic preservation and planning staffers, in partnership with the State <br />Historic Preservation Office (2014) <br />• Initiated the process to evaluate three historic properties for future BOCC <br />designation as Orange County Local Historic Landmarks: White Cross School, <br />John Hackney House, and the Nicholas Corbett Hester House (2014) <br />• Held a full membership retreat to review goals and establish a new five -year <br />action plan to focus the energies of the HPC on a series of major projects and <br />initiatives (2013) <br />• Completed an archaeological survey (Phase II) of Hollow Rock Access Area <br />(New Hope Creek Preserve) to further identify Native American sites, with <br />funding assistance from a $15,000 federal grant through the State Historic <br />Preservation Office (2013) <br />• Evaluated new candidate for Orange County Local Landmark status and <br />recommended BOCC designation for the Captain John S. Pope Farm (2013) <br />• Convened the Orange County Historic Preservation Summit (May 2012) involving <br />ten organizations (historic commissions and non - profits) from the county and <br />municipalities <br />• Completed Design Standards for Orange County Local Landmarks and Local <br />Historic Districts (2 010) <br />• Prepared the Cultural Resources Chapter of the 2030 Comprehensive Plan <br />(2008) <br />• Ongoing support for the preservation and long -term maintenance of County - <br />owned historic buildings, including complexes at future park sites <br />List of Specific Tasks, Events, or Functions Performed or Sponsored Annually. <br />• Prepare annual report for the State Historic Preservation Office to retain status <br />as a Certified Local Government, allowing the County to maintain eligibility for <br />federal grants for historic preservation activities <br />• Conduct a variety of activities related to National Historic Preservation Month in <br />May, in partnership with Preservation Chapel Hill and the Alliance for Historic <br />Hillsborough <br />• Administer the Orange County Local Historic Landmark Program <br />• Provide a forum for public comments on nominations to the National Register of <br />Historic Places <br />Describe this commission's activities /accomplishments in carrying out BOCC <br />goal(s) /priorities, if applicable. <br />Goal Two: Promote an interactive and transparent system of governance that <br />reflects community values. <br />
