50 <br />• Prevent and intervene in epidemics and the spread of disease <br />• Protect against environmental hazards <br />• Promote and encourage safe and healthy behaviors <br />• Assure the quality and accessibility of health services <br />• Assure compliance with laws and regulations that protect health and <br />safety <br />What are your Board /Commission's most important accomplishments? <br />In addition to completing their strategic plan for 2014 -2016 <br />http: / /www.co.orange.nc.us /health /documents /StrategicPlan2014- <br />2016 Final.pdf, the Board of Health oversaw the planning and kick off of <br />the newly created Family Success Alliance <br />http: / /orangecountync.gov /health /fsa.asp as well as continued oversight of <br />the Smoke Free Public Places Rule passed in January of 2013. <br />Highlights of this year's accomplishments from the 2012 -2014 strategic <br />plan: <br />Access to Care <br />• Passed Orange County Health Department Health Literacy Policy <br />• Oversaw local implementation of the Affordable Care Act, <br />including 20 trained navigators who provided enrollment <br />assistance to 141 Orange County residents <br />• Implemented an Innovation Grant program for internal pilot <br />projects to improve services and patient outcomes <br />Substance Abuse & Mental Health <br />• Established the first naloxone distribution program in a North <br />Carolina Health Department <br />• Oversaw development of county population health dashboards to <br />track health and compare Orange County to peer counties, state <br />and national health indicators <br />Child & Family Obesity <br />• Partnered with Orange County Sportsplex to increase healthy <br />food options by removing the fryer and stocking improved snack <br />options <br />• Established a lactation room for clients and staff at the Health <br />Department <br />• Advocated for policies aimed at reducing obesity in childcare and <br />schools <br />List of Specific Tasks, Events, or Functions Performed or Sponsored Annually. <br />Healthy Carolinians Annual Meeting <br />Review of Child Fatality Prevention Task Force Report and <br />
