11 <br />Memory" program can be effective in improving memory for persons <br />with dementia. The goal is that the Music and Memory program will be <br />made available to other assisted living facilities and homes in the <br />county in 2015. <br />• Assistance to the Triangle Ombudsperson in offering the "Virtual <br />Dementia Tour" twice to the County Department of Aging's "Project <br />Engage" class, and once to the Florence Gray Soltys Day Health <br />Program. The "Virtual Dementia Tour" simulates the challenges faced <br />by elderly persons with dementia. The "Tour" is proving to be a very <br />effective training tool for those who work with persons with dementia. <br />The program will be offered in assisted living facilities and other venues <br />in 2015. <br />• Participation in the Triangle J CAC Leadership training on 2126/14. Four <br />Orange County Adult Care Home Community Advisory Committee <br />members attended this one day training program <br />• In follow up to 2013 County Department of Aging /CAC co- sponsored <br />training for assisted living and family care home staffs on the <br />development of quality activity programs for residents and on retention <br />of quality staff through recognition and opportunity for advancement, <br />two area facilities were recognized this year for implementation of <br />creative activity programs. <br />• Participation in joint UNC Nursing /ACH CAC holiday present donation <br />drive. This drive provides resources to facilities, such as magazines, <br />puzzles, clothes, activity materials and other needed items. <br />• Provision of information about CAC activities to other community <br />organizations. For example, a CAC member also serves on the <br />County's Aging Advisory Board. <br />• Met with Orange County Commissioner Renee Price at regular bi- <br />monthly business meeting to discuss CAC's purpose and <br />accomplishments. <br />Identify any activities this board /commission expects to carry out in 2015 as they <br />relate to established BOCC goals and priorities. If applicable, is there a fiscal <br />impact (i.e., funding, staff time, other resources) associated with these proposed <br />activities (please list). <br />• Continuation of quarterly visits to assisted living facilities and annual <br />visits to assisted living family care homes in the county. <br />• Continuation and expansion of the "Music and Memory" program in <br />facilities where it is now being used, and extension of the program to <br />other assisted living facilities and homes. <br />• Offering "Virtual Dementia Tour" training for staffs at assisted living <br />facilities and homes in the county. <br />• Further collaboration with County Department of Aging to improve <br />resident activity programs in assisted living facilities and homes, and to <br />improve the retention of qualified staff at these facilities and homes. <br />
