There are 6 facilities and 6 family care <br />homes that provide assisted living care in the county. <br />• Prepare and submit official reports on visits to assisted living facilities <br />and family homes as required by the NC Division of Aging & Adult <br />Services. These reports summarize findings of visits to facilities and <br />homes and point to concerns about care. <br />• Advise and assist the County Department of Aging and the Triangle J <br />Ombudsperson about programs they devise to help improve care for <br />residents in assisted living facilities and family homes in the county. <br />• Foster increased community volunteerism in Orange County's LTC <br />facilities. <br />• Promote community awareness of the needs of residents in LTC, and <br />inform the public about emerging developments in long term care and <br />the operation of long term care facilities and homes in Orange County. <br />What are your Board /Commission's most important accomplishments? <br />Through visits to assisted living facilities and family homes, continued <br />personal advocacy for residents in these facilities and homes. <br />Advice and assistance to the County Department of Aging and the <br />Triangle J Ombudsperson in designing and offering programs to <br />improve the care of residents in assisted living facilities and homes. <br />Greater community awareness of Orange County's long term care <br />system. <br />List of Specific Tasks, Events, or Functions Performed or Sponsored Annually, <br />and board /commission's activities /accomplishments in carrying out BOCC <br />goal(s) /priorities, if applicable <br />• Twenty -three visits in 2014 by visit teams, each with 2 to 4 committee <br />members, to assisted living facilities or family homes; 15 of these visits <br />were to facilities, and 6 to family care homes. <br />• Preparation of a detailed report written for each of the 21 visits to <br />assisted living facilities or family care homes. These reports are <br />available to the public on the Orange County website. <br />• With the County Department of Aging and the Triangle J <br />Ombudsperson, sponsoring a showing of the "Alive Inside" <br />documentary about the benefits of Music and Memory. This <br />documentary was shown three times in the county in 2014. These <br />showings were open to the public, and several hundred interested <br />persons attended the showing. <br />• Advice to and support for the Orange County Department of Aging in <br />offering the "Music and Memory" program to four assisted living <br />facilities in the county: The Stratford, Crescent Green, Villines, and <br />Carolina House.
