9 <br />1 <br />1) A proclamation to establish of August 26 as Women’s Equality Day in Orange County, which <br />2 <br />was passed by the Board. <br />th <br />3 <br />2) AHuman Relations Month Forum, with a focus on the 19amendment, which was held this <br />4 <br />past weekend. <br />5 <br />3) A community read at the Orange County Library, which is scheduled for Monday, March 23, <br />6 <br />with a book selection and topic focused on the equitable treatment of women. <br />7 <br />4) A long term goal of forging relationships with organizationsthat promote women’s rights, <br />8 <br />including the League of Women Voters, and the Compass Center. <br />9 <br />10 <br />Matt Hughes said, moving forward, the department will continue to work to address <br />11 <br />concerns regarding discrimination and equal access,especially with regard to gender equity. <br />12 <br />He said there will bea poster contestandan essay contest for the schools, as part of <br />13 <br />the Pauli Murray awards. He said the work to foster parity in the community is ongoing. <br />th <br />14 <br />Commissioner Richsaid the 25anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act <br />15 <br />(ADA) is coming up, and the Visitors Bureau is working on putting out a brochure listing all ADA <br />16 <br />facilities and hotels. She suggested that the Human Resources Committeecould coordinate <br />17 <br />with them on these efforts. <br />18 <br />Chair McKee noted that CommissionerRich and Commissioner Priceparticipatedin the <br />19 <br />Human Relations Month Forum. <br />20 <br />21 <br />9.County Manager’s Report <br />th <br />22 <br />Bonnie Hammersley noted that the work session on February 12will include discussion <br />23 <br />regarding Potential Requirement that Contractors Doing Business with Orange County Pay <br />24 <br />Employees a Living Wage. She said there will also be several carry-over items from the <br />25 <br />January 30, 2015 Board Retreat, including the process forthe public to place items on a regular <br />26 <br />meeting agenda, and a discussion on boards/commissions’processes. <br />27 <br />28 <br />10.County Attorney’s Report <br />29 <br />NONE <br />30 <br />31 <br />11.Appointments- <br />NONE <br />32 <br />Chair McKee noted that he will follow up with the Clerk and Manager tomorrow <br />33 <br />regarding the status of the Orange County Housing Authorityboard appointments. <br />34 <br />35 <br />12.Board Comments <br />36 <br />Commissioner Price said she would like to make sure applicationsfor board <br />37 <br />appointments are current, to insure that appointees are still interested in serving. She also <br />38 <br />suggested checking to be sure the advisory board polices regarding unexcused absences are <br />39 <br />being followed. <br />40 <br />Commissioner Price said theNational Association of Counties (NACo)newsmentioned <br />41 <br />that counties were moving forward with raising the minimum wage, ahead of the passage of the <br />42 <br />minimum wage act. She said Orange County was not mentioned, and it would help if NACo <br />43 <br />knew what Orange County has done. <br />44 <br />Commissioner Jacobs said this should be communicated through Public Affairs. <br />45 <br />Commissioner Jacobs said this meeting room will be used for the Agricultural Summit <br />th <br />46 <br />on February 16, and it will be free, with lunch provided. <br />47 <br />Commissioner Jacobs commended Orange County Schools for paying all of its <br />48 <br />employees a living wage, and Chapel Hill Carrboro Schools for being nominated to compete <br />49 <br />nationally for their green practices. <br /> <br />
