<br />PIEDMONT HEALTH SERVICES <br />Piedmont Health Services increases access to high-quality affordable primary health <br />care services for underserved communities in north-central North Carolina. <br />2007-2008 Allocation: $10,750 2008-2009 Request: $10,750 <br />Recommendation: Funding of $10,750 for services to provide health care services to <br />individuals and families in Orange County. <br />PIEDMONT WILDLIFE CENTER <br />Piedmont Wildlife Center's mission is to support North American wildlife and their <br />habitat through rehabilitation, education, public awareness, and scientific study, with <br />emphasis given to wildlife and wilderness of the North Carolina Piedmont. <br />2007-2008 Allocation: $20,000 2008-2009 Request: $30,000 <br />Recommendation: HSAC recommends funding of $10,000 to assist with rehabilitation, <br />education, and scientific study of animals in Orange County. <br />PLANNED PARENTHOOD <br />Planned Parenthood of Orange and Durham Counties provides educational and health <br />care services aimed at reducing the incidence of unwanted preghancy, AIDS, and other <br />sexually transmitted infections especially among teens and low-income men and <br />women. <br />2007-2008 Allocation: $21,940 2008-2009 Request: $21,940 <br />Recommendation: Funding of $21,940 for support of services including family planning, <br />HIV and STI testing, cancer screenings, and treatment for STIs as well as education <br />programs. <br />PROJECT TURN AROUND <br />Project Turn Around is a court diversionary program for first-time, non-violent drug <br />offenders; program participants receive twelve months intensive supervision, during <br />which time they are required to pay program fees, be employed or in school, support <br />themselves and any dependents, participate in drug counseling, have no further criminal <br />charges and be drug free. <br />2007-2008 Allocation: $64,424 2008-2009 Request: $64,424. <br />Recommendation: HSAC recommends funding of $64,424 for services to youth of <br />Orange County. <br />RAPE CRISIS CENTER <br />The mission of the Orange County Rape Crisis Center is to stop sexual violence and its <br />impact through support, education, and advocacy. <br />2007-2008 Allocation: $28,000 2008-2009 Request: $35,000 <br />Recommendation: Funding of $35,000 for services to support survivors of sexual <br />violence and educational programs for Orange County residents this year. <br />2008-09 HSAC Outside Agency Recommendations 9 <br />
