<br />HUMAN SERVICE PROGRAM RECOMMENDATIONS <br />The appendix includes a description of each agency, FY 2007-2008 allocation amount, <br />agency amount requested for FY 2008-2009, and the Human Services Advisory <br />Commissions' funding recommendation. <br />A HELPING HAND <br />A Helping Hand has identified the following goals: to enable senior citizens to live <br />independently, maintain high levels of wellness, and avoid institutionalized care. <br />Services include accessibility to health care, mobility assistance, medication reminders, <br />adequate nutrition, a safe home environment, respite for caregivers and advocacy. <br />2007-2008 Allocation: $5,000 2008-2009 Request: $10,000 <br />Recommendation: Funding of $10,000 to provide subsidies to assist low-income senior <br />citizens, disabled adults and chronically ill that are Orange County residents. <br />ADOLESCENT PREGNANCY PREVENTION COALITION OF NC (APPCNC) <br />The mission of APPCNC is to lower the teen pregnancy rate in Orange County and <br />North Carolina. The program offers training and services to youth-service providers to <br />implement teen pregnancy prevention education. <br />2007-2008 Allocation: N/A 2008-2009 Request: $500 <br />Recommendation: Funding of $500 to be used for teen pregnancy prevention training <br />and guidance in implementing programs for providers who serve youth in Orange <br />County. <br />ADOLESCENTS IN NEED <br />Adolescents in Need serves Orange County School District teens (grades 6 through 12 <br />and those not in school). The agency focuses on youths at-risk for early sexual <br />involvement, substance abuse, defiant behavior, and physical or sexual abuse. <br />2007-2008 Allocation: $75,749 2008-2009 Request: $75,749 <br />Recommendation: HSAC recommends funding of $75,749 to serve at-risk teens in <br />Orange Gounty. <br />ALLIANCE OF AIDS SERVICES <br />The. Alliance's mission is to serve people with HIV/AIDS, their loved ones, caregivers <br />and the community at-large through non-judgmental care, prevention, education, and <br />advocacy. <br />2007-2008 Allocation: $3,000 2008-2009 Request: $5,000 <br />Recommendation: Funding of $5,000 to the Alliance for services to Orange County <br />clients this year. <br />~ Agencies with an "N/A" for the 2007-2008 allocation amount did not receive Orange County funding this fiscal <br />year. <br />2008-09 HSAC Outside Agency Recommendations <br />
