ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: March 3, 2015
Action Agenda
Item No. 6 -k
1
SUBJECT: An Amendment to the Orange County Board of Commissioners Advisory Board
Policy
DEPARTMENT: County Attorney PUBLIC HEARING: (Y /N) No
ATTACHMENT(S):
Policy Amendment
INFORMATION CONTACT:
John Roberts, 245 -2318
PURPOSE: To amend the membership requirements of the Orange County Board of
Commissioners Advisory Board Policy.
BACKGROUND: In February 2012 the Board of Commissioners adopted a general policy
document to establish controls and procedures for numerous Orange County advisory boards
and commissions. The document is extensive and imposes numerous requirements on
members of and applicants to advisory boards. In addition there are board - specific policies for
each advisory board. These board - specific policies take precedence over the general policy
document in some aspects such as membership requirements. Some require advisory board
members be nominated by one of the towns and /or be appointed from a specific township. The
Board of Commissioners has determined that, in some instances, these types of vacancies go
unfilled for months or years. In an effort to ensure vacancies are filled in a timely manner, the
Board of Commissioners desires to set aside board - specific policy requirements dealing with
town nominees or geographic requirements if the vacancies affected by those requirements
remain unfilled for six (6) consecutive months.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact to adopt the recommended amendment.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends the Board approve the amendment to
the Orange County Board of Commissioners Advisory Board Policy to set aside board - specific
policy requirements dealing with town nominees or geographic requirements if the vacancies
affected by those requirements remain unfilled for six (6) consecutive months.
