1
ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: May 17, 1994
Action Agenda
Item # X—d
SUBJECT: REPORT: RURAL CHARACTER STUDY ALTERNATIVES
DEPARTMENT: PLANNING PUBLIC HEARING: YES % NO
ATTACHMENT(S) : INFORMATION CONTACT:
Cover Memo Dave Stancil, Extension 2590
"Issues to be Resolved"
Alternative Development Options TELEPHONE NUMBERS:
Possible Next Steps Hillsborough - 732-8181
January 1994 meeting comments Chapel Hill - 967-9251
Durham - 688-7331
Mebane - 227-2031
PURPOSE: To consider issues and possible
alternative development options that
reflect comments from the January 1994
Rural Character community meetings.
BACKGROUND: In January 1994, the Rural Character
Study Committee Chair, staff, and the
Dispute Settlement Center conducted three
community meetings in northern, central
and southwest Orange regarding proposed
development options that have been
recommended by the Rural Character Study
Committee and/or staff.
The results of the community meetings
were reported to the Board on March 1. A
work group was authorized to look into
unresolved issues and alternative
development options that reflected
comments received at the meetings,
augmented with guidance from the Board.
The work group idea was deferred in favor
of Board discussion of a staff report.
The report (attached) outlines
"unresolved" issues and presents ideas
for discussion on ways of accommodating
community comment (also attached) into
the package. Finally, a proposed schedule
for consideration is included.
RECOMMENDATION: For review and discussion.
