Approximately, <br /> 1,200 children will be screened by sixteen teams of dental hygiene <br /> students under the professional supervision of dental school faculty. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The Board of Commissioners have previously approved the Smart Start grant <br /> on April 4, 1994, and the contract between the Department of Human <br /> Resources and the Health Department for the funding of the dental <br /> screening program and other initiatives on May 2, 1994 . The enclosed <br /> document is a sub-contract from the health department to the dental school <br /> for the coordination of the dental screening project. It enables the <br /> health department to avoid having to establish a temporary position and <br /> has enabled closer coordination between the health department, the School <br /> of Dentistry and the dental and hygiene students, who will actually carry <br /> out the work. <br /> No county funds are required, the contract is fully funded by the Smart <br /> Start grant and the work will be completed by June 30, 1994. <br /> RECOMMENDATIONS) The Manager recommends that the contract be approved. <br />
