3 <br /> Attachment <br /> C8105 -4/94 <br /> SENIOR PUBLIC HEALTH EDUCATOR <br /> GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: <br /> Performs intermediate professional and responsible administrative work <br /> coordinating, planning, organizing and promoting health promotion <br /> programs to varied population groups; does related work as required. <br /> Work is performed under general supervision. Supervision may be <br /> exercised over subordinate clerical personnel and community volunteers. <br /> TYPICAL TASKS: <br /> Provides overall coordination of and direction for community-based <br /> public health projects, and senior center based health promotion and <br /> disease prevention programs, and other projects targeted to specific <br /> population groups; <br /> Facilitates the coordination of efforts of various agencies, schools, <br /> coalitions, county departments and other community groups; <br /> Coordinates and promotes special health promotion events for the <br /> general public and special population groups; <br /> Collaborates with community residents through agencies and other <br /> community groups to do a needs assessment; <br /> Plans strategies to develop and address goals and objectives of health <br /> programs and projects; Collects, analyses and tabulates program data <br /> for program development, evaluation and reports; <br /> Develops and carries out appropriate evaluation strategies; <br /> Monitors expenditures and prepares monthly financial reports; <br /> Schedules and plans agendas for meetings; <br /> Recruits, trains and supervises volunteers/Community Health Advocates; <br /> Performs related tasks as required. <br /> KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: <br /> General knowledge of the functions of community health agencies; <br /> thorough knowledge of agency objectives and procedures; general <br /> knowledge of theories, principles, methods and techniques used in <br /> preparing and disseminating public health educational information and <br /> programs; thorough knowledge of community health planning, organization <br /> and development; general knowledge of techniques in preparing graphic <br /> materials, exhibits and visual aids; ability to present ideas <br /> effectively both orally and in writing; ability to work effectively and <br /> communicate with people of all educational levels; ability to establish <br /> and maintain effective working relationships with community and <br /> educational organizations and groups, the general public and <br /> departmental staff; ability to facilitate cooperation among various <br /> groups implementing health education programs. <br /> EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: <br /> Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation <br /> from an accredited college or university with major course work in <br /> health education or related field and at least two years experience in <br /> public health education. <br />
