The discussion has centered <br /> on a progam whereby the Orange County Health Department <br /> would provide periodic inspections to monitor maintenance <br /> and operational practices at on-site alternative waste <br /> treatment systems. The primary thrust of the program would <br /> be to promote operational and maintenance practices that <br /> would prolong the systems' useful life-span while providing <br /> a level of waste treatment efficiency and quality <br /> sufficient to protect public health and the environment. <br /> Current discussion on the development of an inspection <br /> program has provided two basic program options which differ <br /> primarily in regard to the proposed frequency of system <br /> inspection. Waste treatment systems which are regulated <br /> and permitted by the NC Division of Environmental Health <br /> (DEB) and local health departments, denoted as DEB Type <br />
