Pedersen, Superintendence <br /> Chapel Hill-Ca+rrboro City Schools <br /> I <br /> Andrew Overstreet, Superintendent <br /> Orange County Schools <br /> RE: Appointment of Advisory Task Force to <br /> Submit Grant for the Intervention/Prevention Program <br /> DATE: April 21, 1994 <br /> The Orange County Schools and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools <br /> intend to submit a joint proposal to apply for a portion of the $12,000,000 which <br /> was recently appropriated by the North Carolina General Assembly for the <br /> Intervention/Prevention Program, The legislation allows for up to three school <br /> districts to submit a joint proposal for funding to support one or more of the <br /> followin models; (1) school-based resource model; (2) after-school program <br /> mode,; F3) Communitles in Schools model; (4) alternative learning program <br /> model; and (5) safe schools program model (conflict resolution and peer <br /> mediation). <br /> The legislation requires applicants to "consult with a local task force <br /> appointed by the county board of commissioners and comprised of educators, <br /> Parents, students, community leaders, and representatives of the juvenile <br /> justice system, human services, and nongovernmental agencies providing <br /> services to children. To the extent possible, the task force shall be <br /> representative of the racial and socioeconomic composition of the geographic <br /> area to be served by the grant." <br /> We are requesting that the County Commissioners appoint the present <br /> Communmes in Schools Board of Directors to serve as the local task force and <br /> add the following twelve members in order to provide the required <br /> representation: two parents, two teachers, and two students from each of the <br /> school districts.
