Since 1990, the percentage <br />of White and Black citizens is declining, while all other races have increased in number and as a <br />percentage of the total population: <br />The White population has increased 21.6% to 92,272 (78% of the total population). <br />The Black population has increased 9.4% to 16,298 (13.8% of the total population). <br />The Hispanic community is growing most dramatically, increasing 312.3% between 1990 and <br />2000, from 1,279 to 5,273 by 2000, representing 4.5% of the total population. <br />The Asian population grew 105.2% during the same period, making up 4.1 % of the total <br />population.5 <br />In the Town of Chapel Hill, the racial composition is predominantly White and Black with those <br />groups comprising 78% and 11 % of the population respectively. Asian and Pacific Islanders and <br />persons of Hispanic origin comprise substantially smaller population segments; however, these <br />two groups have been increasing at the highest rates <br />5 <br />
