Dev. PUBLIC HEARING YES: NO: x
------------------------------- ----------------------------------
ATTACHMENT(S) : INFORMATION CONTACT: Tara L. Fikes
TELEPHONE NUMBER-
Hillsborough - 732-8181
Chapel Hill - 968-4501
Mebane - 227-2031
Durham - 688-7331
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
PURPOSE: To award the bid for public facilities improvements related
to the proposed Magnolia Place subdivision to the lowest responsible
bidder and authorize the Chair to execute a contract for this work upon
review by the County Attorney and the County Purchasing and Central
Services Director.
BACKGROUND: In February 1994, the County received a Community
Development Block Grant award of $250,000 to finance the public facilities
improvements (water/sewer, streets) for the Magnolia Place subdivision.
This 42 unit development is being sponsored by the Orange Community
Housing Corporation and Development Resources, Inc. .
Bids for this work were initially received from three contractors on March
17, 1994. However, one bid could not be accepted because it was submitted
without the bid bond, therefore, there was a re-advertisement for bids and
a second bid opening was held on April 4, 1994. A summary of the bids will
be presented at tonight's meeting. All bids will be reviewed by the County
Engineer; the County Purchasing and Central Services Director and the
Housing/Community Development Director.
Based on preliminary estimates, it is anticipated that the cost for this
work will exceed the $247,050 available in CDBG funds. Therefore, the
developers have agreed to deposit with the County the difference between
the contract price and the available CDBG funds prior to contract
execution.
RECOMMENDATION(S) :
The Manager recommends awarding the bid for public facilities improvements
related to the proposed Magnolia Place subdivision to the lowest
responsible bidder as presented tonight and authorize the Chair to execute
a contract for this work upon review by the County Attorney and the County
Purchasing and Central Services Director.
