Attachment <br /> 3 <br /> C3135-4/94 <br /> GIS APPLICATION DEVELOPER <br /> GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: <br /> Performs complex professional work providing applications development, <br /> staff education, and project management relating to the development of <br /> the County's Geographic Information System (GIS) ; does related work as <br /> required. <br /> Work is performed under general supervision. <br /> TYPICAL TASKS: <br /> Creates and maintains GIS applications in Arc Macro Language (AML) <br /> using ARC/INFO GIS software; <br /> Works with existing and/or future system users to understand <br /> departmental needs, mandates, workflow and procedures; <br /> Applies GIS system capabilities to departmental needs; <br /> Evaluates implementation approaches; <br /> Develops menus, macros and programs to prepare required application; ; <br /> Works with the Systems Administrator to ensure accurate operation of <br /> the hardware, software, systems backups, etc. ; <br /> Works with Mapping Supervisor to coordinate digitizing of maps and <br /> other data entry; <br /> Provides user education and training in application and software system <br /> procedures, standard uses and capabilities; <br /> Presents demonstrations of system; <br /> Evaluates the hardware, software, training and development needs of GIS <br /> users and prepares recommendations; <br /> Performs related tasks as required. <br /> KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: <br /> Thorough knowledge of GIS system hardware and software; thorough <br /> knowledge of the principles and techniques of systems analysis and <br /> design, programming and documentation; general knowledge in the <br /> operation of graphic/mapping work stations and peripheral devices; <br /> general knowledge of UNIX operating systems; ability to resolve minor <br /> hardware and software problems; ability to prepare and conduct training <br /> courses on computer and mapping technology and techniques; ability to <br /> communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to <br /> establish and maintain effective working relationships with user <br /> personnel; ability to follow complex oral and written instructions; <br /> ability to prepare technical reports and manuals. <br /> EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: <br /> Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation <br /> from an accredited college or university with major course work in <br /> geography, planning, computer science, or a related GIS field and at <br /> least three years experience with geographic information systems, <br /> computer assisted mapping and/or application development. <br />
