Draft Proclamation from the <br /> County Commissioners TELEPHONE NUMBER: <br /> Hillsborough - 732-8181 <br /> Chapel Hill - 968-4501 <br /> Mebane - 227-2031 <br /> Durham - 688-7331 <br /> PURPOSE: <br /> To officially recognize Public Health Month during the month of April, <br /> 1994. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The report on the Future of Public Health by the Institute of Medicine, <br /> redefines public health as, "What we as a society, do collectively to <br /> assure the conditions in which people can be healthy. " <br /> In order to inform the public of the achievements in public health, to <br /> help our citizens to gain a greater understanding of public health <br /> services and to urge a strong commitment to healthy living, Public Health <br /> Month has been established for state wide observance during the month of <br /> April 1994 . The Health Department has decided to focus the month of <br /> April in preparation for National Preschool Immunization Week, April 24 - <br /> April 30, 1994. <br /> The department is working in collaboration with the Orange County <br /> Coalition for Immunizations, which involves the Cooperative Extension <br /> Service, Orange Chatham Comprehensive Health Services, the Kiwanis Club <br /> and other agencies in the community. Immunization Clinic times are being <br /> expanded and a major effort to inform, recruit and even transport <br /> children ages 0-2 years old and their parents for free immunizations at <br /> multiple locations in the county. <br /> RECOMMENDATIONS(S) Proclaim Public Health Month during the month of <br /> April, 1994. <br />
