Department of Transportation for FY93-94 . <br /> BACKGROUND: Orange County Commissioners approved on January 22, 1991 <br /> an updated Transportation Development Plan (TDP) and is <br /> recognized as a Section 18 rural public system. Orange <br /> County is eligible for special state funds to subsidize <br /> existing C.A.T. routes by paying for public riders. <br /> Three senior citizens daily routes have been identified along <br /> with the C.A.T. Shuttle as available to the general public. <br /> The N.C. Department of Transportation will reimburse on a per <br /> trip basis. The purpose of the rural public funds is to <br /> encourage Section 18 Programs to expand service to public <br /> ridership in addition to human service C.A.T. agencies. <br /> The state funds would offset county funds that support the <br /> transportation routes. <br /> The Orange County Human Services Transportation Advisory <br /> Board's public subcommittee met on Feb. 8 and approved <br /> seeking funds for this effort. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S) : <br /> Manager recommends approval and Chair to sign the Certified <br /> Statement of Participation in the Rural General Public <br /> Program. <br /> FN: ABS94#19.DOC <br />
