' - J <br /> • I OR.titiGE COU TY PLAINNING DEPARTMENT <br /> 306F REVERE ROAD <br /> HILLSBOROUGH, NORTH CAROLINA 27278 <br /> January 5, 1994 <br /> A letter to: Residents of rural Orange County, <br /> Orange County Commissioners, <br /> Orange County Planning Board, <br /> Orange County Township Advisory Councils, <br /> Orange County Rural Character Study Committee, <br /> Other Orange County Boards, and <br /> Supplementary Mailing List <br /> Dear fellow county citizen: <br /> You are cordially invited to attend one of three meetings in late <br /> January on the subject of future rural development patterns. <br /> These meetings are being held at the request of the Orange County <br /> Commissioners, who are considering recommendations from the Rural <br /> Character Study Committee on ways to protect the agricultural, <br /> natural and visual character of the County's rural areas. Many of <br /> you have attended meetings along similar lines over the past <br /> several years, and we thank you for your participation. <br /> At previous meetings, input was solicited on a wide variety of <br /> subjects affecting the rural areas and their citizens. This input <br /> was used by the Rural Character Study Committee in developing their <br /> recommendations ( "Conceptual Guidelines for Rural Orange" ) , <br /> recommended by the Committee in January 1993. <br /> The meetings planned for this month will be focused on one issue <br /> only -. rural land development options. This issue is a result of <br /> the Orange County Planning Board's review of the "Conceptual <br /> Guidelines" recommendations. The Planning Board agreed with the <br /> vast majority of the Rural Character Study Committee's <br /> recommendations on protecting rural character. However, the <br /> Planning Board suggested some changes to proposed rural development <br /> options. As a result, County staff has prepared an alternative, but <br /> similar, package of development options based on the Planning <br /> Board's ideas. <br /> The County Commissioners have asked that these two alternative <br /> "packages" of development' options be presented at community <br /> meetings. We hope to solicit a preference from citizens on which <br />
