2
in central Orange at New Hope Elementary School. The January
27 meeting was held at the Orange Grove Community Building in
southwest Orange.
A total of 261 notices were mailed to citizens on a variety of
committees/mailing lists, and the local media. In addition, 200
flyers were distributed at convenience stores and other locations in
the rural areas. Citizens were invited to attend any of the three
meetings.
A total of 53 persons attended the meetings. A listing of
their comments, and a summary by staff is provided as an
attachment to this item. While there were a number of different
comments received, a few common themes were sounded at all
three meetings:
o None of the citizens could select one alternative over the other -
finding likes and dislikes with both.
o Two-acre lot conventional development was clearly preferred over
one-acre lots, for a number of different reasons (see summary).
o Five-acre lots with incentives were universally popular.
o Citizens felt that open-space development (OSD) densities were
too high. Several recommended lowering the top-end density to
one unit per gross acre.
o Many citizens were concerned about the use of alternative
wastewater systems for open-space developments.
o Many area of rural orange County are unique, and different
development standards in different areas might be appropriate.
RECONE4iFNDATION: Receive as information.
