3 <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COl~~IMISSIONERS <br />Orange County Government Week <br />Apri16 -12, 2008 <br />PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, the nation's 3,066 counties provide a variety of essential public services to <br />communities serving 300 million Americans; and <br />WHEREAS, in appearance and characteristics, these counties differ as widely as the <br />nation of which they area a part; and <br />WHEREAS, the role of county governments has become increasingly complex and <br />sophisticated as the demands placed upon them continue to grow; and <br />WHEREAS, the National Association of Counties is the only national organization that <br />represents county governments in the United States -raising awareness and <br />understanding of county contributions, advancing with a unified voice county issues <br />before the federal government, assisting through research and education in finding and <br />sharing innovative solutions to county concerns, and providing value-added information <br />and technical services to help counties save taxpayers' money; and <br />WHEREAS, the National Association of Counties first celebrated National County <br />Government Weelc in 1991 to raise public awareness and understanding of how counties <br />strive to meet the needs of growing and diverse communities; and <br />WHEREAS, Orange County government invites and encourages all residents to become <br />active and stay involved in working vigorously towards solutions for the public good; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Orange County Board of <br />Commissioners do hereby proclaim April 6-12, 2008 as National County Government <br />Week in Orange County, North Carolina. <br />This, the 1st day of April 2008. <br />Barry Jacobs, Chair <br />Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />
