Staff Plan to Address Board of County Commissioners <br /> Petition RegardingOUTBoard/Bicycle Safety <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />At the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC)November 6, 2014 regular meeting, the <br />following petition regarding bicycle safety was brought forth by Commissioners Price and <br />Jacobs: <br />Request for Planning staff toreview Chapel Hill and Carrboro policies related to <br />pedestrian and bicycle access and begin working with cyclist groups, law <br />enforcement and transportation officials to develop a culture of sharing the road. <br />The petitionwasreviewed by the Chair/Vice Chair/Manager Agenda team.The Manager’s <br />response to BOCC Petitionwas provided as an Information Item at the BOCC’s November 18, <br />2014 meeting (Attachment 1): <br />Manager to discuss with Town Managers; Chair and Vice Chair to discuss with <br />NCDOT at the quarterly meeting on 11/12; and <br />Manager to ask Planning staff to work with OUTBoard to set up sub group(s) to <br />discuss/develop plan with input on membership from BOCC. <br />Planning staff’s proposed plan to address the BOCC petition regarding OUTBoard/Bicycle <br />. <br />Safety is provided as Attachment 2 <br />Next Steps <br />1.Planning staff will proceed with the attachedplan to address the BOCC petition <br />regarding OUTBoard/Bicycle Safety. BOCC representation citizen participation is also <br />discussed in Attachment 2.Staff willreturn to the BOCC on June 16 with an update <br />andseek direction on any next steps. <br /> <br />
