ASSEMBLY OF GOVERNMENTS <br />AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: March 31, 2008 <br />SUBJECT: Assembly of Governments Discussion Items <br />DEPARTMENT: County Manager PUBLIC HEARING: (YIN) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />As noted in "Background" section <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Laura Blackmon or Greg Wilder, 245-2300 <br />PURPOSE: To discuss topics of mutual interest among the governing boards of Orange <br />County and the Towns of Carrboro, Chapel Hill, and Hillsborough. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />1) Orange/Chatham County Regional Planning Collaboration Report <br />The planners from the partner jurisdictions and agencies have met on several occasions over <br />the last few months separately from the joint meeting with elected officials. Participants have <br />shared topics of joint interest, as well as mechanisms to continue to bolster regional joint <br />planning. The attachment provided outlines who could be involved and how the jurisdictions <br />and their staffs could continue to augment joint planning in the region regarding a variety of <br />important issues. Orange County Planning Director Craig Benedict can discuss the content of <br />the attached outline. <br />Attachment 1 - a -Orange/Chatham County Regional Planning Collaboration Report <br />Outline <br />Attachment 7 - b -Regional Value-Added Shared-Use Food and Agricultural Processing <br />Center Summary <br />2) Potential Joint Use of the Jordan Lake Water Supply <br />OWASA Board Chair Randy Kabrick has provided the attached letter and associated <br />information regarding OWASA's intent to update its long-term Water Supply Plan with an <br />evaluation of the estimated costs, benefits, and other considerations concerning the possible <br />joint use of Jordan Lake. Information on this subject was originally presented and discussed at <br />the September 20, 2007 Assembly of Governments meeting. On February 28, 2008, the <br />OWASA Board unanimously supported the OWASA staff's participation with the City of <br />Durham, Chatham County, and Orange County in evaluating the potential joint use of Jordan <br />Lake water. OWASA representatives will be at the Assembly of Governments meeting to <br />discuss this item in more detail. <br />
