33 <br /> 1. Base Maps <br /> Base maps of the Planning Area at scales from 1" = 1000 ' <br /> to 1" = 3000 ' shall be maintained and updated <br /> approximately every seven to ten years. <br /> 2. Street and Highway Inventory <br /> An inventory of the geometrics of the existing major <br /> street system shall be maintained. Periodically, or 'as <br /> changes or additions to the major street system occur, the <br /> inventory shall be updated. <br /> 3. Signalized Intersection Inventory <br /> The City of Durham Department of Transportation and the <br /> Chapel Hill Public Works Department will maintain updated _.. <br /> inventories of traffic control devices operated by the <br /> City and the Town. The Traffic Engineering Branch of the <br /> Division of Highways will maintain updated inventories of <br /> traffic control devices for the remaining portion of the <br /> transportation study area. <br /> 4. Parking Inventories <br /> Inventories of both on- and off-street parking supply in <br /> the "MSS" central business district shall be maintained. <br /> Inventories of parking facilities in other areas will be <br /> performed and updated as needed. Data collected should <br /> also include parking policies as well as rates. <br /> 5. Special Transportation Services for the _Elderly and <br /> Disabled <br /> Special transportation services for the elderly and <br /> disabled (E&D) are provided by a number of agencies within <br /> the urban area. Updated inventories shall be maintained <br /> as required on E&D population, E&D location, E&D <br /> transportation needs, special transportation services <br /> offered, and usage of these services. This information <br /> will be extracted from existing census data and other <br /> sources due to the expense and complications of performing <br /> an extensive survey. <br /> 6. Transit Facilities and Services <br /> Inventories of transit equipment and facilities shall be <br /> maintained. Also, an inventory of transit services should <br /> be maintained. Transit services includes such service <br /> characteristics of transit routes as operating periods, <br /> number of assigned vehicles, route-miles and daily trips. <br /> 10 <br />
