Conclusion -- The Target Advisory Group feels strongly cnaE.:
i) work snould continue by the EX and Planning board to streamline
ordinances and make the regulation process more Irienaly to ousiness,
development should be encouraged at locations within the COLInty
where utilities and zoning currently 1-*--rnit. it,
3) a re-assessment of land use policies snould start to allow
utilization of the appropriate locations within the interstate
corridors and Highway 54 west of Carrboro,
4) Orange County goverment should immediately concentrate on pre-
zoning a parcel of land near the intersection of I-d5 and duckhorn
Road within the identified activity node,
5) business sites which are immediately available for development in
the Hillsborough and Mebane areas should be marketed,
6) the intersection of 1-40 and Old NC 86 could be the western gateway
to the Research Triangle; all quadrants of this intersection are
appropriate for commercial, retail, and service industry development.
With the continuation of current actions and an active interest and
approval by the Board of County Commissioners, Orange County can
attract businesses that will protect our pnysical resources and our
excellent quality of life, and increase opportunities for citizen
employment. This will enhance the non-residential taxbase to allow for
more tax revenues and better public services.
Page 5
