The tract contains 63. 15 <br /> acres and is currently zoned Agricultural Residential. u r <br /> Located on the property are a residence, a barn, and <br /> two (2) non-contributing structures. The house began <br /> as a single-pen log cabin built circa 1810. Approxi- <br /> mately ten years later, a two-story, Federal style <br /> farmhouse was built as a separate structure south of <br /> the log cabin. A Greek Revival wing was added to the <br /> farmhouse circa 1855. In 1940, the farmhouse was <br /> connected to the cabin by an ell extending north. The <br /> last addition to Maple Hill was a dining room/kitchen <br /> wing built in 1946 east of the log cabin. <br /> A large log and frame barn is located in a pasture <br /> west of Maple Hill. The description contained in the <br /> nomination form estimates that the barn was built from <br /> 1855 to 1910. It contributes to the historic quality <br /> of the site. <br /> National Register nominations are evaluated based on <br /> the following criteria: <br /> A. Property is associated with events that have <br /> made a significant contribution to the broad <br /> patterns of our history. <br /> B. Property is associated with the lives of persons <br /> significant in our past. <br /> C. Property embodies the distinctive <br /> characteristics of a type, period, or method of <br /> construction or represents the work of a master, <br /> or possesses high artistic values, or represents <br /> a significant and distinguishable entity whose <br /> components lack individual distinction. <br /> D. Property has yielded, or is likely to yield, <br /> information important in prehistory or history. <br /> Maple Hill and the accompanying farm qualify for <br /> listing on the National Register under Criteria A and <br /> C. The vernacular Federal style of the farmhouse is <br /> one of the best examples from the early nineteenth <br /> century that remain standing in Orange County. The <br /> farm is significant in that it illustrates the type of <br /> diversified subsistence farming that supported the <br /> agricultural economy of Orange County in the nine- <br /> teenth and early-twentieth centuries. <br /> During the review period, the Planning Staff solicited <br /> comments from interested agencies or groups.
