Commissioner Rich said she and Commissioner Jacobs served as judges in a class at <br /> UNC for student ideas for new and innovative businesses. She said it was encouraging to see <br /> that spark in these kids, and it was an eye opener to the need to retain them here. <br /> Commissioner Pelissier said NCDOT has issued a new process to prioritize projects, <br /> and there was some concern about the light rail project. She said the light rail project was <br /> included in the list, and this means there will likely be some state monies received. . <br /> Commissioner Price said she attended the NC Association of County Commissioners <br /> Board of Directors meeting. She said there is a surplus in revenues, and the extra monies will <br /> be given back to the counties. <br /> Commissioner Jacobs said Wake County advertised on the radio that they would be <br /> having a meeting regarding public transportation, and 600 people attended. <br /> Commissioner Jacobs said there was a third agricultural summit meeting, and this has <br /> morphed to a local food system as a whole with agri-tourism as a component. <br /> Commissioner Jacobs said he and Chair McKee attended the Extension in Community <br /> (ECA) Breakfast. He said this organization is 100 years old, and it was very interesting. He <br /> suggested that their president might come to make a presentation to the Board in the future. <br /> Commissioner Jacobs thanked the clerk and staff for the reception for the outgoing and <br /> incoming elected officials. <br /> Commissioner Jacobs expressed his condolences regarding the recent death of Peter <br /> Kramer. <br /> Chair McKee said he would like to expand on the Commissioner Jacobs mention of the <br /> ECA. He said these used to be known as home demonstration clubs, and he gave some of <br /> the history of this organization. He said this is an important behind the scenes group who <br /> does a lot of good work in the community. <br /> Chair McKee said he and Commissioner Price were at the agricultural extension <br /> breakfast this morning, and there was a focus on 4-H and some of the other programs. <br /> Commissioner Price said there was a real sense of community at that meeting. <br /> 13.
