Petitions by Board Members <br /> Commissioner Price said her first item is a joint petition with Chair Jacobs regarding the <br /> safety and shared use of bicycles and cars on the roads. She said residents have expressed <br /> increased frustration with this issue, and there have been several reports in the media <br /> regarding incidents of road rage. She said people are increasingly using a variety of modes of <br /> transportation, and in many areas of the County there are minimal to no road shoulders. She <br /> requested that staff consult with Chapel Hill and Carrboro regarding polices related to <br /> pedestrian and bicycle access, and engage bicycle advocates, community representatives, law <br /> enforcement and DOT staff to work toward developing a culture and approach to sharing the <br /> roads throughout Orange County. <br /> Chair Jacobs expressed his support for this petition. <br /> Commissioner Price petitioned the Board regarding the policy on naming of buildings. <br /> She petitioned that the interior of buildings be permitted to be named after living persons. <br /> Commissioner Gordon asked for an update on her previous petition to have the <br /> agendas posted on the County website with links for viewing individual items. <br /> Bonnie Hammersley said she directed that petition to Jim Northup, and she will follow <br /> up with him. <br /> Commissioner Pelissier said once a year the Board recognizes individual staff <br /> members for longevity. She petitioned the Board to develop a system of recognizing staff for <br /> superior accomplishments. Public Hearinqs <br /> a. 2030 Comprehensive Plan Future Land Use Map Amendment— Related to Town of <br /> Hillsborouqh Extraterritorial Jurisdiction (ETJ) Relinquishment (No Additional <br /> Comment Accepted) <br /> The Board received the Planning Board's recommendation, closed the public hearing, <br /> and made a decision on a County initiated amendment to the 2030 Comprehensive Plan <br /> Future Land Use Map (FLUM) affecting approximately 500-acres located generally near the <br /> Eno River between US 70 W and I-85/I-40 in Cheeks and Hillsborough Townships. This <br /> amendment assigns County future land use classifications to properties that are to be removed <br /> from the Town of Hillsborough Extraterritorial Jurisdiction (ETJ), which is to become effective <br /> October 1, 2014. <br /> Tom Altieri reviewed a map of the area, as well as the following PowerPoint slides: <br />
