BOARD OF ORANGE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS (BOCC) <br />GOALS — 2015 UPDATE <br />FOR DISCUSSIONS PURPOSES <br />•• <br />Less, Healthy Holidays, Good Farmers <br />Market Practices, Energy Conservation <br />Education, Technology and You, and <br />Estate Planning. FCS agents engaged <br />approximately 2,000 Orange County <br />residents annually. <br />Department of Environmental, Agricultural, Parks, Department of Environmental, Agricultural, <br />and Recreation (DEAPR) Parks. and Recreation (DEAPR) <br />Recreational program offerings also offer both <br />athletic and skill and artistic development <br />components within regularly- scheduled <br />seasonal activity. <br />Economic Development <br />• The Arts Commission enriches the quality of <br />life of Orange County citizens by helping to <br />develop the arts at all levels: <br />• Through arts education for children in our <br />public schools via grants for artist <br />performances, workshops and residencies; <br />• Through on -going arts information distribution <br />via press releases, online newsletters, website, <br />online searchable artist database, online arts <br />Environmental education and nature <br />programming (including events such as <br />Arbor Day, Earth Evening, Earth walk, <br />Farm -to- Table, and National Trails Day <br />and National Public Lands Day) have been <br />implemented and expanded to enhance <br />educational opportunities since 2009. <br />These events occur annually and provide <br />new educational venues (the Farm -to -Table <br />event at Blackwood Farm saw 400 school <br />children from both school systems learn <br />about agriculture and related topics, and <br />Earth Evening promotes awareness of an <br />environmental ethic and issues). <br />Economic Development <br />• Through annual participation in 4th U.S. <br />Congressional District High School Arts <br />Competition for high school visual arts <br />students; <br />Through annual co- sponsorship of <br />Emerging Artists Program awarding funds <br />and recognition to highly qualified artists <br />in a variety of arts disciplines; <br />annual co- sponsorship of <br />
